The holidays are drawing near, and we’re in the middle of a cold and flu season that has many people worried. The good news: you can protect your health, feel great NOW and actually feel BETTER as the year ends! autumn-cornucopia-2

I know not everyone wants to totally change her body and lifestyle. Many of you would be thrilled to lose 15 pounds, and others, well, you’re ready to fully step onto a new path and revamp every aspect of your life.

Working with me over the next 12 weeks, wherever you are is where you are met. The intention of this program is progress and implementation, not perfection and comparing ourselves to others (which always feels bad).

This unique Women’s Winter Wellness and Weight Loss program is about removing the negative and adding positive steps that help you live a healthy life. It’s a bridge that leads to rejuvenation and restoration and launches you fully into total wellness.

Too Many Talented, Driven Women are Suffering
from the Harmful Effects of the Standard American Diet

I’ve seen it, time and again. Focused, brilliant women like you get held back from living an authentic life because of the very thing meant to fuel your days: food.

It’s not your fault – it’s pretty much engrained in our culture to eat a diet high in sugar and refined products and chemical-laden food. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a way out. In fact, there are many healthful, TASTY, wholesome foods available to you – if you know where to look.

That’s why I created my signature 12 Week Winter Wellness and Weight Loss Program based on my books, The Great American Detox Diet and Living Vegan for Dummies!

How do I know it works? Because I’ve been there myself.

I’ve suffered through my own cycles of seasonal depression, sugar addiction and stress-induced holiday meltdowns. I once barely had enough energy to get through my days, much less pursue my greater goals in life.

Fortunately, I was able to combat my low energy (and the accompanying depression and fatigue) by adopting an easy diet of wholesome, hearty foods.

* When you sign up for the 12-Week Winter Wellness and Weight Loss Program, I’ll walk you through the steps that worked for me – and have since worked for countless others. The vital curriculum you’ll follow is made up of targeted advice that will steadily lead you toward a balanced, vibrant life.

Diets high in processed foods lead to higher depression rates

A new study from the University College of London found that people who eat  a diet high in processed foods are more likely to be depressed.

The study also showed that “those who ate [a diet higher in] whole foods had a 26 percent lower risk of depression than those who ate mainly processed foods.”

This scientific study supports the work I’ve been doing with clients for years, and gives people powerful ammunition to improve their lives naturally. Many of my clients have been able to reduce, eliminate or avoid impending prescriptions for anti-depressants and anxiety medication.

The whole foods, natural plant-based diet as detailed in The Great American Detox can help you feel better in many ways! See the latest testimonial one reader submitted about her health transformations that came from following my dietary and lifestyle plans.

Be well, y’all!

Alexandra

Within the past 5 months or so I have lost 30 lbs and my migraines have pretty much ceased!

Beth from Cleveland Ohio wrote to me last week about how following my dietary advice has greatly improved her life:

“Dear Alex,

I wanted to send you a letter to tell you how much I absolutely admire your passion and love for healthy eating. It’s so inspiring!

I have suffered from migraines since I was 10.  I remember the first one I ever had, the pain was unbearable and my mom ended up taking me to the ER. Over the past 22 years (I’m 32) I have learned to just “deal with them”, avoid triggers and take my prescription meds from my neurologist and accept my inherited condition (my father gets cluster migraines).

Even though I come from a medical family (mom is a nurse, dad is a doctor) I never like taking prescription drugs. When I would go to my neurologist and talk about my migraines she seemed frustrated when I told her I wasn’t taking my pills that I would try rubbing peppermint oil on my temples, burning apple candles, drinking lots of water or tea, and doing yoga to try and get rid of my migraines.  I really wanted to take a holistic approach to “curing” myself because I always felt the body is very powerful and can heal itself with the help of the little things.  All I ever got were the “doctor look and lecture” of when you get a migraine take your pills. Period.

When I saw you on Super Size Me I really felt inspired to eat healthier. Not necessarily vegan at first, but getting rid of a lot of junk from my diet. Your husband definitely got me to stop eating ANY fast food so a big thank you to him.   I  went out and bought your book The Great American Detox Diet and couldn’t put it down! I was taking so many notes and writing all in the book; it became my “bible.” Everything I read made sense, but just because I read something doesn’t mean its true, right?! So I decided to make small changes and see what happens.

Within the past 5 months or so I have lost 30 lbs and my migraines have pretty much ceased. I went in to see my neurologist for my bi-yearly visit last week and she was very pleased and I think shocked that I no longer needed my prescription.  I went from having 3-4 migraines a week, soemtime more during my menstrual cycle to 1 in the past 5 months!! I have never felt better and I actually encourage others to eat healthier. It’s a great feeling.

I look forward to reading your newsletters and looking forward to purchasing Living Vegan for Dummies. Thank you so much for inspiring me and helping me become a healthier, happier person.

Best regards,

Beth, Cleveland, Ohio”

Missing Cheese? Try Mochi!

Mochi is a wonder-food based on a traditional Japanese recipe of pounded sweet rice. Simply stated, this totally natural brick food can be used like cheese for those of us who desire to avoid dairy! It’s gluten free, too, making it appealing to many with food allergies.

You can grate it on top of baked dishes so it melts, you can bake it so it puffs up like little chewy, cheesy poofs, or you can “melt” it to make a cheesy sauce. A wonderful whole-grain treat that kids and adults enjoy! mochigroup

The main company in the US that creates this natural food is Graiaissance makes flavors like Raisin-Cinnamon, Sesame-Garlic, Super Seed, Cashew-Date, Original, Wheatgrass with Mugwort, and Pizza.

Check out the Grainaissance website for more easy recipe ideas, but here’s the basic idea to get you started:

  1. Cut mochi into 1 inch squares (use a sharp knife – this brick is stiff!), about 12-16 squares.
  2. Pre-heat oven to 450. Spread mochi squares so they’re not touching and bake for 8-10 minutes until they puff up and turn slightly brown.
  3. Stuff with your favorite condiments: nut butter, mashed beans, dipped in sauce or spread with jam.
