Win This Book! “Meat Is For Pussies” – A Book Review

Subtitled “A how-to guide for dudes who want to get fit, kick ass and take names,” John Joseph’s  (AKA “Johnny Blood Clot”) latest book is for hard core guys and the chicks that love them. Joseph, also lead singer of the hardcore punck/thrash band The Cro Mags, is a dedicated fitness freak, vegan, and spiritual New Yorker who encourages men to move towards a plant based diet. And he’s a really nice guy (don’t let the tattoos fool you – he’s a sweet heart who would lay down his life for a friend).

While laying out the reasons why veganism does a  body good, John’s energetic, wild-man writing style entertains and gives the distinct impression that he walks his talk. While sharing detailing important health information about training, weight lifting, energy, and food input, the author shares stories from his life that bring the subject matter into full, technicolor reality. One of my favorites is about when his mother was served a greasy hamburger and fries in the hospital just three days after heart surgery.

Stories like this, pictures of vegan athletes and body builders, recipes, and a seven day workout with food plans make this book the perfect gift for any man who might be interested in living a healthier life but isn’t sure a plant based diet is “manly” enough. Men will be inspired to take ownership of their food choices and health, as the book shows how truly hard core, old school, and rock solid John Joseph has become through this diet and lifestyle. Like his quote says “Trust me, you can be a compassionate warrior.”

John Joseph kicks ass. This book on my shelf would kick ass too!

  2. I am SOOOOOOOO HAPPY that John wrote this book! I am at my wits end today with all the stupid people I work with fighting me on environmental and meat issues. I need to buy that book and stick it in their inboxes and up their asses. LOL….ugh. God, it’s a constant up hill battle to stand my ground on a daily basis. Especially when I’m around stupidity every single f**king day. …..sorry. Venting session there, but I know everyone else “gets it” also. VERY frustrating.

Hey! I have been a vegan for over 10 years and love it – totally healthy! I run, cycle etc! Recently I started a new job – at a small independent publishers. In order to learn about marketing, I was set the task of looking at the reception of this book.

I was amazed at how many people were upset by the title, rather than concentrating on the information it contained!

I would love to have a copy to read and to convince my colleagues that the vegan diet is the way to go!

  6. Micah Risk says:

I am a 6yr veteran and now a mother of two, a student of philosophy and married to a guy that loves body building/fitness/soccer etc. we are 3 year vegans and will never go back life is beautiful just as our bodys feel. Girls I know get all bothered by how skinny and healthy i am while holding my 5 mo old, I say hell no i cant work out due to my crazy schedule! I just keep a cruelty free diet (and yes I usually get shit for it). Its nice to be a vegan and feel good in every way especially an amount of pride that u dont need to be killing anything for jst eat. people are confused thinking they need all this protein and calcium by meat and dairy (blaaah) My little 2 year old will turn down a happy meal for some hummus and carrots any day!
